Teddy’s SOS – Student Onward Support
Taking one of my knife-making courses isn’t just a great introduction to the craft, it’s the foundation for your journey into creating blades with skill and confidence. You will gain essential knowledge, hands-on experience, and the ability to start making knives on your own.
BUT IT DOESN’T STOP THERE…
Once you have caught the knife-making bug, you will want to refine your skills, push your creativity and take your craft to the next level. That’s why I’ve launched Teddy’s SOS (Student Onward Support)—a dedicated Facebook support group for passionate students who want to keep learning and improving.
I’ve reached out to some of the UK’s finest knife makers and several have stepped up to share their expertise. Along with myself, these master craftsmen are ready to answer your questions, offer advice on technique and design and guide you as you progress in your knife-making journey.
Makers list below.
Once you’ve completed your course, simply ask to be added to the group—and continue sharpening your skills with the best.
Teddy’s Knives
Chris Wright: From Detective to Professional Knife Maker/Knife Making Instructor.
Once a detective, I found knife making as a way to escape the stresses of the job. What began as a personal passion soon evolved into a craft of the highest standard, so much so that my knives are now in the hands of top chefs and discerning home cooks around the world.
Taking the leap - I left law enforcement behind to pursue knife making full-time, and from that, Teddy’s Experience Days was born. There is nothing I enjoy more than sharing my knowledge, teaching students the art of blade making, and meeting incredible people along the way. Every student brings something unique to the table, making the journey even more rewarding.
To support those who want to take their passion beyond an experience day, I launched Teddy’s SOS, a mentorship initiative designed to help aspiring knife makers continue their journey. With the backing of the talented makers listed here, I hope to inspire and support the next generation of British bladesmiths.

Hi folks, Mads McLean here. Owner and maker at Sindre Knives based in Falkirk, Scotland. My knife making journey started when I was a teenager hunting and fishing in Scandinavia, but today I mostly make high-end Japanese inspired culinary knives. These days I am a full-time father and part-time cutler, but I have always got time to help other makers. It's a privilege to be here.

Coppertop Customs
Scott Stothard: My journey to becoming the knife maker I am today had humble beginnings in a garden shed… Well lets take it back to the real beginning. I have grown up going camping, fishing and bushcrafting from my time in the air cadets to roaming the hills of Scotland with my friends. I used store bought factory knives for years until my friend brought a custom knife. After trying it out my eyes were opened. Time and work got in the way until covid, where I found myself like many of you, off work with too much time on my hands. To keep myself sane I bought a shed and some basic tools and away I went. It has been a journey and my absolute joy being able to hone and develop my craftsmanship over the past four years while building my workshop, continuously developing my knowledge, skills and experience which now allows me to create the highest quality custom made products for the discerning Coppertop customer. I should also mention that my friend who introduced me to custom made knives on that camping trip now uses one of mine which leaves me feeling humbled.

Wynter Forge
Liam Chapman: I’m Liam Chapman, the founder of Wynter Forge. I’m a former British Army soldier who has transitioned into full-time forestry work while also pursuing my passion as a part-time bladesmith. With years of experience in bushcraft, camping, and fly fishing, I first started forging small Puukko-style knives on a simple coal forge.
Now, I work from my workshop in Swansea, South Wales, primarily crafting high-quality chef knives, though I occasionally make bushcraft blades, kukris, and even swords. I specialize in forging and pattern-welded steels, and I’m deeply passionate about the craft.
Feel free to ask me any questions about the forging process, steel types, and their uses—I’d love to help you on your journey into knife making!

Glittering Edge
Greg Marr: I started making knives via stock removal in 2011 before establishing my workshop, Glittering Edge, in 2014. I have been honing my skills since then to keep learning specialist knowledge but also teaching basic (and more advanced) bladesmithing and stock removal skills to anyone who wishes to and is open to learning.
I run private weekend courses as well as creating swords, daggers and nearly anything else that a client may request. In addition to this, I always want to keep pushing my abilities and expanding on my skillset. Whether this is through shared knowledge and guidance or learning by doing - I take great joy in being creative and trying to encourage others to follow a creative path.
